Swedish Massage
Massage is one of the oldest forms of therapy and there are paintings dating back more than 5,000 years in China, Japan, Egypt and Persia.
In 1813 a school offering massage courses was started in Sweden by a Per Henrik Ling. Many of his massage techniques are still in use today. Swedish Massage includes different kinds of strokes, called :
- Effleurage (a gentle stroking movement)
- Petrissage (kneading, picking up, wringing and rolling) to help stimulate lymphatic drainage in the muscles and tissues and supply blood to these areas)
- Tapotement/Percussion (hacking, pounding, clapping and beating movements) to stimulate circulation and superficial muscles to aid mobility)
As circulation and lymphatic drainage occur it also helps to reduce inflammation and speed healing time of injured muscles and ligaments, relieving tension and stiffness - resulting in relaxation and helping to reinstate the natural healing mechanisms of a body in balance.
Throughout the massage your modesty is preserved with carefully placed thick, fluffy towels. The treatment room is warm and an electronic couch is used for your comfort and aid to get on and off the couch more easily.
Massage can help many conditions, including:
Anxiety, Arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, Back Pain, Bereavement, Bronchitis, Catarrh, Constipation, Depression, Digestive Problems, Headaches, High Blood Pressure, Insomnia, Clenched painful jaw problems, Migraine, Parkinson’s Disease, Poor Circulation, Shoulder pain, Stress and much more.
